Beyond the label

Amandla, meaning “power within us” in the local Zulu dialect, is a truly one-of-a-kind venture. The South African wine business is entirely run by Black women, and their delicious wines celebrate the vibrancy of Black culture.

Praisy Dlamini is the brilliant winemaker behind Amandla. She has fifteen vintages under her belt, starting out at the historic Zonnebloem estate. She’s also the first woman in the Cape Winemakers Guild. Last year, she hand-crafted and released her first Amandla wines…and made waves. The Drinks Business took notice, giving the new venture the Best Launch of the Year award. Now, Amandla is making its U.S. debut and you have access to their top red wine...

Amandla “Our Power” is a delicious blend of Shiraz and Zinfandel that’s won a gold medal from Harpers for its stunning label design. Its juicy layers of plum, blackberry, strawberry and spice make it a perfect partner for pizza, empanadas and more flavorful dishes. The eye-catching label is sure to make a statement, too. Its dazzling portrait represents the Black women behind Amandla, who are committed to evolving while staying true to their roots.

Fun fact: This red's white wine counterpart, Amandla Sauvignon Blanc, won “Wine of Show” at our May 2024 tasting event at City Winery in NYC. It's the top honor out of all 60+ wines featured as voted by the hundreds of customers in attendance. Cheers to that!
