Beyond the Label

After the success of the Federici family’s original Roman red, we’re thrilled to introduce you to this luxurious ‘Collezione Oro’ (gold edition). Named after the estate’s founder, Antonio Federici marries hand-harvested local grapes Montepulciano (60%) and Cesanese (40%). Aged for six months in French oak barrels, it displays ripe red berry and warm spice notes, all wrapped up in a velvety-smooth texture. One sip and you’ll understand why it won gold at Mundus Vini and earned 99 points from critic Luca Maroni.

The Federici family has farmed land in central Italy since the early 1900s, but in the 1960s, Antonio Federici founded Cantine Federici and began making wine. The family was one of the first producers in the Roma region, and under the leadership of third-generation Damiano Federici, they remain one of the best. Their vines grow on the same ‘tufo’ rock from which the Colosseum and much of Ancient Rome was built.

The Roma DOC lies within the larger Lazio region, which is home to the ancient capital city of Rome and has a winemaking tradition dating back to Etruscan times. The area benefits from cooling breezes from the Tyrrhenian Sea to the west and the Apennine Mountains to the northeast, as well as fertile volcanic soils—a perfect combination for locking in freshness and yielding ripe flavors in the grapes.

You probably don’t need us to tell you that the Federici family’s special-edition red is the perfect choice for a big, Italian-style feast. Enjoy it alongside a big plate of antipasto, your favorite pasta dishes or a classic Tuscan steak.
