Beyond the Label

Château Lynch-Bages stands at the entrance of Pauillac in the village of Bages, where vineyards date to the 17th century. Named after its former 18th century owner Thomas Lynch and the small village of Bages, it was classified as a Fifth Growth in 1855.

The château came under of the Cazes family in 1939, and ever since third-generation Jean-Michel Caze took over in 1973, the estate quickly ascended to the highest echelons of Cru Classés in terms of quality and consistency. Today, it is firmly considered “Super Second,” and is the only Fifth Growth to have made this leap.

“There is little doubt that Lynch-Bages deserves its reputation as one of the true great wines of Bordeaux.” – Bordeaux expert Jane Anson

Lynch-Bages often listed as one of the best values amongst collectors and produces sturdy, long-lived wines that are also more enjoyable in their youth than rivals. Its vineyards encompass 247 acres, which are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The 2015 release was widely lauded by critics (see below), and it is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Merlot (with the balance split between Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot) that was aged in 75% new oak barrels.

It is rated 96 points by Wine Enthusiast and Vinous, the latter of which wrote, “One of the finest Pauillacs of 2015, Lynch-Bages is rich, racy and voluptuous…Raspberry jam, mocha, new leather and expressive floral notes appear with time in the glass, rounding things out nicely…the wine has plenty of stuffing as well as the underlying structure to support many years of exceptional drinking. This is a stellar showing for Lynch-Bages.

Extremely limited. First come, first served.
