Flavor Profile
Châteauneuf-du-Pape is the Southern Rhône’s most prized red wine, and quality in recent years has been astounding. Decanter critic Matt Walls was impressed with the 2021 vintage. He writes, “In some ways this feels like an old-fashioned vintage; measured alcohol, good acidity, strict tannins...an enjoyably fresh and balanced style.”
There’s no better taste for fans than Château Sixtine, the legendary Diffonty family’s powerful flagship release. In the past, it’s been awarded a higher score than iconic Château de Beaucastel (for many, the finest Châteauneuf of all), rated #2 (out of over 150 wines) at the annual competition in the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and won multiple 90+ point scores and gold medals.
The 2021 release arrives with serious acclaim, including 93 points from Decanter and a 92-94 point rating from critic Jeb Dunnuck:
“The 2021 Châteauneuf-du-Pape brings more volume and richness, with both red and black fruits, medium to full body, and notes of black raspberries, peppery herbs, graphite and chalky minerality. Rich, nicely concentrated and balanced, it shows the lively, elegant, pretty style of the vintage while still bringing solid fruit and texture.”
A classic Châteauneuf blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, Château Sixtine is made in extremely small quantities at the Diffonty’s boutique estate. While it’s already delicious now (especially with traditional pairings like roasted lamb or ratatouille), don’t be afraid to stash a few bottles away for the coming years. Secure your share today.
