Flavor Profile
Its recent elevation to cru status (alongside Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas) has “propelled Rasteau reds into the big leagues,” says Decanter. This tiny corner of France’s southern Rhône Valley, perched on a small, south-facing hill, is home to full-flavored, Grenache-heavy reds—and just wait until you taste this one…
Domaine Martin is a boutique, family-owned operation (since 1905), now run by fifth-generation brothers David and Eric Martin. Their old vines yield only a small amount of grapes, but thanks to the excellent 2022 vintage, the fruit they did produce ripened to perfection and created award-winning wines. As Decanter’s Rhône expert Matt Walls reports, “Outside Châteauneuf, the best performing appellation was Rasteau…The 2022 vintage has delivered wines with bright fruit, good concentration and balanced alcohol.” Proving the point, this release sports big acclaim: including multiple gold medals and a 90-point score from judges at Decanter World Wine Awards.
This is a classic Rhône blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre (60%, 25%, and 15%, respectively). After six months’ barrel aging in oak casks, Domain Martin brims with spicy, dark-berry flavors and will delight alongside roasted meats, hearty stews and more.
