Beyond the label

“From one of New Zealand’s finest producers, this is about as good as Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc gets.”

That’s famed wine critic Huon Hooke, extolling the merits of Dr. John Forrest’s regular Sauvignon Blanc. But there’s nothing “regular” about his limited-edition Field of Stones Sauvignon Blanc—every year, it adds stacks of golds, 90+ point scores and 5-star reviews to its ever-growing stockpile. And you have special access, as long as you make a quick move.

Field of Stones is a special cuvée that John crafts from a prized, single-acre vineyard that’s home to the oldest vines and stoniest soils on his estate. It’s considered one of the best vineyards in all of Marlborough, as this particularly stony patch of land along the Wairau River lends a distinct mineral edge to the wine that’s reminiscent of fine Sancerre (the most famous Sauvignon Blanc in France’s Loire Valley).

In other words: this is serious Marlborough Sauvignon.

Top wine writer Sam Kim scribbled this little (90-point) rave down when he tasted a previous release of Field of Stones: “It is punchy and splendidly fragrant on the nose showing passionfruit, feijoa, lemon peel and Gala apple characters, followed by an intensely expressed palate that is juicy and lively. The palate delivers excellent fruit purity, brilliantly supported by refreshing acidity, finishing persistent and delectable.”

Thirsty yet? Good, because the new release is even better...you know what to do.
