Flavor Profile

Beyond the label

The Napa Valley’s uber-premium subregion of Atlas Peak might be best known for Cabernet Sauvignon, but this gorgeous white proves that it also produces gorgeous Chardonnay. As illustrious as the mountain vineyards from which the grapes were sourced, Illustrious Chardonnay is a must-taste for fans of elegant California Chardonnay.

What makes Atlas Peak so special? Though it only became an official American Viticultural Area in 1992, the region has a winemaking history that dates back to 1870. And, as the name suggests, Atlas Peak is one of Napa’s highest districts, with vineyards planted up to 1,600 feet above sea level, on the slopes of the Vaca Range. The high altitude exposes the grapes to brilliant sunshine and a wide diurnal temperature range, which lengthens the grapes’ ‘hang time’ on the vine so they can develop seriously concentrated flavors.

It's no surprise that Illustrious won silver at the San Francisco International Wine Competition. Beautifully complex, it offers ripe apricot, quince and white pear aromas, underpinned by delicate floral and cream notes. Elegant and smooth, the palate has vibrant orchard-fruit flavors and a subtle creaminess on the long, fresh finish. Deserving of a delicious, full-flavored meal, this Chardonnay will delight alongside chicken roulade, lobster tail or creamy vegetarian dishes.

A truly special Chardonnay from one of Napa’s most illustrious districts. First come, first served.
