There are many reasons as to why such wines exist. Perhaps Mother Nature produces a very bountiful crop one year, and an elite winery has a few too many barrels, so they offer them to a very close associate. Or, a winemaker is blending a premium Cab from different barrels, and a few of them don’t add the character he wants, so he sells them to a close friend at a great price, so long as they agree to never name the source.

It comes from the prestigious Oakville district (home to $4,000+ a bottle Screaming Eagle and many equally exclusive Cabs).
