Flavor Profile
Julien Bouchard Chablis is a polished, medium-bodied, unoaked Chardonnay that offers honey-kissed orchard fruit flavors accented by citrus notes—and is a delicious introduction to one of France’s finest regions. Because it comes from Julien Bouchard, it’s also an incredible value (more on that below).
A Perfect Balance: This refreshing white was made with grapes from a series of plots set across the village of Chablis, in the northern reaches of France’s Burgundy region. The area is home to some of the world’s most sought-after Chardonnay, usually unoaked and delivering a fresher, more precise take on the grape that’s almost always driven by distinct minerality.
Julien Bouchard Chablis stays true to the region’s classic style of steely, zippy Chardonnay, but is also gentle on the palate. It’s something that can be appreciated by fine wine enthusiasts and newer wine lovers, alike.
After wafting exceptionally fresh aromas of white blossoms, Anjou pear and lemon zest, it opens up into a creamy-soft, balanced palate of similar flavors, all anchored by a mineral core. And while (obviously) delicious on its own, it’s even more alluring when paired with food. We recommend sipping it alongside mild fish like cod, sole or trout; shellfish like oysters and scallops; chicken prepared simply; or creamy pastas or risottos.
A Dream Partnership: In Burgundy, the house of Albert Bichot is legendary, having owned land there since the 14th century and produced wine since the early 1800s. Today, it remains a family-run company that owns its own vineyards (including six domaines throughout the region, like Domaine Long-Depaquit, who cultivate the vines for this Chablis). However, Bichot is also a négociant-éleveur, which means it can supplement its own fruit with purchased grapes, freshly crushed juice or unfinished wine from a network of small growers.
The approach allows access to an enviable collection of vineyards and has enabled them to produce premium wines without premium price tags. This is part of the reason Decanter has called Albert Bichot “one of the region’s most dynamic, quality-focused” estates.
For 50 years, Julien Bouchard dedicated himself to making some of the finest wines in Burgundy. In 1955, without anyone to leave his winery and vineyards to, he selected the team at Albert Bichot to become stewards of his life’s work and continue his legacy. Today, we are happy to bring the Bouchard range to the U.S.
