Beyond the label

While the southern Rhône may be most famous for its juicy, powerful reds (like the famed wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape), it’s also home to some of France’s most delicious whites. This brand-new arrival is one of the most exciting we’ve tasted, and it hails from the superb 2019 vintage, which produced perfectly ripe whites.

It’s crafted by our old friend Thierry Ferlay, a Châteauneuf star who’s won more gold medals than any other winemaker in the region. When he launched the Prestige cuvée of his best-selling Côtes-du-Rhône red a few years back, customers simply couldn’t get enough of its rich, Châteauneuf-rivaling flavors. And, after a long search, Thierry finally found the perfect vineyards to produce an equally dazzling Prestige white edition. (It will come as no surprise that it won a gold medal at France’s largest competition upon release.)

The vines lie just outside the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and count some very famous estates as neighbors (like Château de Beaucastel and Domaine de la Janasse). For this limited-edition white, Thierry chose a blend of four traditional grape varieties to deliver a wine that is at once rich and creamy yet lively and vibrant. Grenache Blanc (50%) and Roussanne (10%) bring body and white peach intensity, while Clairette (30%) lends verve and freshness, and Viognier (10%) adds alluring floral aromas.

The wine will sing on its own, as well as being a delectable partner for grilled veggies or your favorite chicken or pork dishes. This is a very small-production wine, so quick orders are recommended.
