Flavor Profile
Great wine starts on the vine, and no one knows that better than William ‘Bill’ Knuttel. He first earned recognition and respect while working for two iconic California wineries: Saintsbury in Napa Valley and Chalk Hill in Sonoma. He helped put them on the map, and nowadays, he crafts his own (equally delicious) wines.
Over the course of his impressive, 40+ year career, Bill has developed an envious set of contacts and relationships with California’s best vinegrowers. So, naturally, we’re thrilled to bring you his new release…
Lost Isle Chardonnay is the latest addition to the Lost Isle range (which includes a hugely popular Cabernet and barrel-aged Reserve). Here, he’s showcasing California’s other famous grape: Chardonnay. This elegant wine is made in small batches with sustainably grown grapes from Reamer Farms, a fourth-generation farming family with over 100 years of experience. Their vineyards in Clarksburg are home to the famous "Robert Young" clone of Chardonnay, which is prized for its elevated aromatics, rich body and intense, complex flavors.
The Reamer family’s expertise and Bill’s talents are on full display with Lost Isle Chardonnay. The long, cool 2023 growing season allowed the grapes extra "hang time" on the vines, enabling them to develop wonderfully complex flavors with full fruit ripeness and excellent freshness. After the Reamers harvested the grapes in mid-October, Bill began his winemaking his magic, and before bottling, decided to age the wine for six months in fine French oak barrels.
Look forward to aromas of orange rind and green apple plus hints of mango and lemon. The palate is rich and creamy, sustaining the cavalcade of fresh fruits in a crisp, well-balanced and lingering finish.
“I love this wine because it’s elegant with a touch of oak, and pairs well with almost anything you can dream up in the kitchen,” says our California wine expert, Kristina Spencer. “Bill has known the Reamer family for years and they give him an exceptional selection of grapes.”
Lost Isle Chardonnay is delicious on its own as an aperitif, but also makes a lovely partner for roasted chicken, creamy truffle risotto, vegetable quiche and so much more.
Add to cart now and be among the first to try it! You’ll be very glad you did.
