Flavor Profile
If you love France’s iconic Châteauneuf-du-Pape, then head to the rugged Spanish region of Calatayud, where you’ll also find powerful reds starring Grenache (aka Garnacha).
Manga del Brujo was the first wine Norrel Robertson (a Master of Wine) ever made at his El Escocés Volante estate in Aragón. It’s been more than 10 years now, and not only has Manga del Brujo snapped up huge points and acclaim with each release, it’s gained almost a cult-like following with wine fans all over the world. You’ll know why as soon as you taste it…
This is a classic Châteauneuf blend of hand-harvested, old-vine Garnacha and Syrah—its Spanish accent comes from the addition of local star grapes, Tempranillo and Mazuelo. After a cool fermentation, it was aged for 20 months in cement tanks (to preserve its intense fruit character).
The 2018 release arrives with 91 points from notoriously tough critic, Miquel Hudin, who wrote: “Very crisp red fruits, red peppercorn, sweet red licorice, very meaty. Big dollop of fruit on the palate which the wine wraps around, longer finish.”
You’ll also discover ripe dark berry aromas, plus inviting wild herb notes. The palate is velvety smooth, with earthy notes rounding out the complex finish. Will really come into its delicious own with a special meal, like slow-roasted lamb or braised beef.
With a big history of acclaim and a small price, this will fly out of our cellar door. Hurry for your share.
