About 20 years ago, the Viognier grape variety had fallen out of fashion. Plantings were down to just a few acres in its home, the tiny appellation of Condrieu in France’s Northern Rhône Valley. But, happily, winemakers began to experiment with Viognier again...and wine lovers quickly embraced the wines’ heady floral/fruity charm. Today, Viognier has enjoyed a triumphant resurgence and makes some of the world’s most opulent whites.
