Beyond the label

Stones & Bones is one of our most popular Portuguese reds, hands down. Every vintage, it receives 5-star reviews galore from customers. Needless to say, we’re thrilled to bring you this limited-edition Reserva.

The team at Casa Santos Lima—ranked one of 2017’s Top 100 Wineries in the world by the World Ranking of Wines & Spirits—really outdid themselves with this decadent red. Winemaker Vasco Martins selected grapes from the estate’s best vineyards, which are strewn with ancient boulders and dinosaur fossils (hence the name, Stones & Bones).

After carefully hand harvesting the grapes to ensure each bunch was picked at optimum ripeness, the team brought them back to the cellar and Vasco worked his magic. He settled on an inky-dark blend of native Portuguese varieties: 40% Touriga Nacional (star grape of Port), 15% Tinta Roriz (aka Tempranillo) and 15% Alicante Bouschet, plus 30% of international Syrah. Finally, Vasco treated the wine to 12 months of aging in oak barriques.

The resulting Reserva brims with ripe dark-fruit flavors, plus attractive spice and vanilla oak notes. With a sumptuous palate and smooth tannins, it’ll be a delicious treat for fans of big reds and a perfect match for barbecue, grilled red meats, charcuterie and firm cheeses like cheddar or Manchego. If you’re looking for an authentic local pairing, try Cozido à Portuguesa (slow-cooked meats and vegetables) or Feijoada à Transmontana (bean and sausage stew).

Stones & Bones is one of our most popular Portuguese reds, hands down.
