Beyond the Label

“The most exciting new wine chapter in 21st-century wine.”

That’s Wine Spectator on Portugal…and we’re very much on the same page. That’s why we can’t wait for you to uncork our newest Portuguese arrival.

The legendary Van Zeller clan helped put the Douro Valley on the fine wine map. They’re also good friends of ours who always tuck away their best-tasting values for our customers—like Vilarissa Valley. Crafted in celebration of their 400th vintage, it hails from the family’s prime-sited vineyards in the Alto Douro Vinhateiro and stars Touriga Nacional (aka, the great grape of Port).

With its terraced, dizzyingly steep slopes, this trendy inland district is warmer and drier than the rest of the Douro, which helps the grapes develop richer, more complex flavors. It also demands that vines be hand-harvested—a painstaking and perilous process that paid off big time: Vilarissa Valley’s already won 90 points and a gold medal from the prestigious Gilbert & Gaillard wine guide. And we’re expecting the critical acclaim to continue…

Aged in fine oak, it’s luxuriously expressive, with a nose of spiced red fruits, terrific balance and a long, persistent finish. A big red lover’s delight that’ll shine with roast beef and other beef-based dishes.

“The most exciting new wine chapter in 21st-century wine.”
