Flavor Profile
When you want a glass of something fresh, chilled, and crowd-pleasing, you can’t beat northern Italy’s intensely aromatic whites. Elegant examples like this exclusive from maestro Alessandro Gallici are rarely found for less than $30 a bottle—and rarely outside Italy.
Alessandro’s Visionario is not only based on Luigi Felluga’s legendary Terre Alte (which sells for $60+ a bottle)—but he also sources his grapes from the same hallowed hill. And, he has to be buzzed in through the massive gates by the Felluga Estate team.
Speaking of “buzz,” customers and critics all love Visionario. Master of Wine Julia Harding has called it “totally Italian and Venetian. Juicy, fresh, and complex.” And the previous release earned two 90-point raves. Here’s what Decanter judges had to say:
This white is fresh and bright with a rich core of stone fruits, honey and hay. The edges feature flavors more along the lines of apple and citrus, while Gewürztraminer’s signature floral rose notes shine.
To craft such a lovely “vision” (a playful nod to the famous Super Tuscan red blends), Alessandro marries local and international grapes from Friuli and Venezie: Tocai Friulano gives it body; Sauvignon Blanc imparts green-fruited notes; Chardonnay adds ripe citrus flavors; and late-harvested Gewürztraminer lends delicate perfume and an ever-so-subtle kiss of sweetness. And we think the fresh 2020 release is every bit as elegant as its award-winning predecessors.
Enjoy it as a mouthwatering aperitif, or with fresh seafood dishes like mussels fra diavolo, grilled calamari, or herb-roasted branzino.
Race for a taste of this unique, northern Italian white…before it’s gone.
