Flavor Profile
They say the older the vine, the richer the wine. Here’s delicious proof—a California Zinfandel with dozens of glowing customer reviews and a vintages-long history of 90+ points and gold medals from top international wine competitions. Just wait until you try the 2020 release, which has also scooped up multiple awards.
Black Saint Peter hails from California’s premium Lodi district, the self-proclaimed ‘Zinfandel Capital of the World.’ Many of the region’s distinctive wines come from gnarled, low-yielding (but flavor-boosting) vines, some of which date as far back as the 1880s.
Zinfandel first appeared on the East Coast in the 1820s, making its way to California during the Gold Rush. The original vines were referred to as ‘Black Saint Peters,’ and they are still considered California’s home-grown contribution to the world of wine.
With Zinfandel, California sets the standard—and Lodi (in the northern area of the central valley) is home to some of the finest. You’re in for an exceptionally ripe treat with this 2020 release, too. Not only was it made using prime fruit from 50-plus-year-old vines (making for deep and complex flavors in the glass), but 2020 is the latest in a string of incredible California harvests, so quality is at an all-time high.
Look forward to concentrated dark cherry and boysenberry flavors, with hints of spice and chocolate on the finish. We recommended pairing Black Saint Peter with spicy pastas (think Fra Diavolo) or a hearty beef stew.
At well under $20 a bottle, this is serious value for a top-notch, old-vine Lodi Zinfandel. Grab your case today.
