Flavor Profile

Beyond the label

Chateau l'Evangile first appeared on the land registers in 1741, and actively participated in the creation of the vineyards of Pomerol. Taken over by Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite in 1990, it was their first estate to use organic farming methods. Today, it sits in the elite circle of Bordeaux's Grands Crus Classés, sharing the limelight with iconic names such as Château Pétrus and Château Lafleur.

The vineyards sit on the famed clay-gravel soils and encompass 22 hectares, with 43 named plots that are planted to Merlot (79%) and supplemented by Cabernet Franc (20%) and a little bit of Cabernet Sauvignon (1%).

This mature 2015 is a classic blend of 84% Merlot and 16% Cabernet Franc, aged for 18 months in new French oak barrels from Tonnelerie des Domaines (their own cooperage, which is very rare). It has two perfect ratings of 100 points, plus many other impressive scores from top international critics (see below).

“Stunning aromas of blackberries, black olives, brown sugar and dried flowers…Full-bodied, dense and layered. Super-fine tannins, yet this is muscular and long. An amazing wine reminiscent of the great L’Evangiles of the 1950s…Goes on and on. Truly great wine. Try in 2024. Just a baby.” – James Suckling

Extremely limited. First come, first served.
