Flavor Profile

Beyond the label

Château Larcis Ducasse is one of the most famous estates in Bordeaux’s picturesque village of Saint-Émilion on the Right bank. This small vineyard is only 11.3 hectares in size, yet is renowned for making some of the finest reds in the world. Today, it is one of just 12 châteaux to carry the rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé B.

The vineyard has been described as “a garden a world apart,” and besides vines, there are laurel and fig traces planted throughout the property. Its soils are a mix of limestone, chalk and clay and the vines are Merlot (83%) and Cabernet Franc (17%), as is traditional in the region. The property abuts famed Château Pavie and has been owned by the Gratiot-Attmane family since 1893, with support from Nicolas Thienpont (whose family is behind icons like Le Pin, L’If and Veiux Château Certan) since 2022.

In Bordeaux, the 2016 vintage was one for the ages, lauded by every critic—and Larcis Ducasse was one of the most highly rated wines of the year. It was scored 99 points by James Suckling and 97 points by Vinous, The Wine Independent and Jeb Dunnuck.

“From one of my favorite estates in Bordeaux, the deeply colored 2016 Château Larcis Ducasse…offers a huge bouquet of black, black fruits, smoked herbs, forest floor, graphite, and underbrush that builds beautifully with time in the glass. Deep, rich, opulent and expansive on the palate, with building tannins, it’s a rich, layered Saint-Émilion as well as another incredible wine from this estate… capable of keeping for three decades or more,” writes Jeb Dunnuck.

Extremely limited. First come, first served.
