Beyond the label

What do you do when you discover dinosaur fossils in your vineyards? Well, if you’re the team at Casa Santos Lima—named one of 2017’s Top 100 Wineries (in the world!) by the World Ranking of Wine & Spirits—you roll with it.

Inspired by the giants that roamed this land millions of years ago (and the stony fossils they left behind), winemaker Diogo Sepúlveda (below) set out to make a red of real power—turning to native star grapes Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Alicante Bouschet, plus international Syrah.

Judging from the HUGE praise from critics, we’d say he’s succeeded deliciously. For seven straight vintages, Stones & Bones has taken home a cascade of international gold medals and top point scores. And the 2020 release has already impressed the editors at Wine Enthusiast.

Look forward to intense aromas of berries and baking spice, followed by a sumptuous, concentrated palate of black plum and bramble…all framed by gentle vanilla-spice notes. It’s smooth enough to sip on its own and also makes a fantastic barbecue red. Enjoy it with smoked turkey legs, burgers, ribs, steaks and more.
